The holidays in Lancaster will start with a parade to officially kick off the season.
The annual event, officially called the ‘Lancaster Holiday Festival Parade’, will start at the county fairgrounds, and wind its way down Columbus Street to the downtown area, then turn east on Main and north on Broad Street to return to the starting point.
The theme of this year's parade is ‘A Storybook Holiday’, and there are already 200 units signed up to take part, leaving just one spot still open for a final entry. The parade will be led by an honor guard from the Lancaster Police Department.
Fairfield Medical Center, which is celebrating its 100th birthday in the community, is the parade's grand marshal. FMC's CEO and President Jack Janoso will march in the parade, along with 100 of the hospital's employees.
Among the highlights of this year's event are animals from the Columbus Zoo, local fire trucks, superheroes like Superman and Batman, a carillon, and musical entertainment, including local marching bands. Cinderella will be there, riding in a coach pulled by Clydesdale horses, as will queens from various pageants. The climax of the parade will be Santa's arrival.
The parade starts at the Fairfield County Fairgrounds at 10:00 am on November 21, and event organizers could make things even more festive by creating holiday Banners with which to decorate the parade route.
With a new vision comes possible rebranding for the medical system, which may seek ad specialties amidst its still-conceptual developments.
