Lancaster goes to the fair

The Fairfield County Fair is on now at the fairgrounds in Lancaster, and there is still time for residents from throughout the area to get in on the fun.

This is the 167th year for the event, which was first held in October, 1851. A true county fair, its attractions include horse races, bull riding, exhibits, and rides.

The schedule changes every day, with a huge variety of events going on throughout the week of the fair. The entertainment tent offers a number of musical groups, and a demolition derby is on the list of offerings to watch. There's also a motocross race, as well as a 5K fun run/walk. Quilters were invited to display their barn quilts, which will be on view for the entire period, and there are livestock judging contests, as well as the Junior Fair Livestock Auction, where young farmers will sell livestock.

The Fairfield County Fair winds up this Saturday, October 14. Admission is $5 for everyone over the age of ten, while children nine and younger are free. The gates open at 10:00 am on the remaining days.

Organizers of events like this can make the experience even more pleasant by working with a flyer printing company to put together a handout for attendees. The handout can list the day's events, and where they are taking place, perhaps accompanied by a small map.
