Fairfield Medical Center turns 100

October 10 marked 100 years to the day since Fairfield Medical Center opened with 10 bassinets and 36 beds.

To celebrate the centenary, Brian Kuhn, the mayor of Lancaster, presented the key to the city to Jack Janoso, FMC's president and CEO, at a ceremony at the Fairfield City Fairgrounds. In addition, Kuhn read a proclamation to honor the date.

Janoso said he was honored that he was the one to receive the key, and thanked all those who had come before him, and played a role in making the medical center the facility it is today. He added having the day at the fair dedicated to the medical center was an “almost surreal” experience, but also a “wonderful” one.

Mayor Kuhn believes this is the first time anyone has received a key to Lancaster. He said it was a happy coincidence that the center's anniversary coincided with the fair, but that FMC would have received the key no matter when the fair started. Kuhn said FMC had talked with the city about its 100th anniversary and what might be done to celebrate the occasion, and everyone thought giving the key to them would be appropriate.
