Arts organization announces upcoming exhibit

The Decorative Arts Center of Ohio (DACO), located in Lancaster, is planning its latest exhibit. ‘Artists of the Winding Road A-Z’ will feature works by artists living and working in the Apalachian Ohio area.

Inspiration for the exhibit comes from southwestern Virginia's ‘Crooked Road’, where a renaissance in local arts is taking place. The name comes from the fact that artists are from both Athens and Zanesville, and points between.

The exhibit is co-curated by Michael Seiler and David Mitzel. Mitzel is the director of the Appalachian Hills of Ohio Territory (AHOOT), a nonprofit organization that manages and produces artistic events in the Appalachian Ohio region. The area was once famous for its natural resources, but in recent years has become known for the art produced there.

Mitzel notes that several artists exhibiting in the upcoming show are from Zanesville, which has a well-established artists' colony, as does Athens. Works in the exhibit will be made from a variety of materials, from asphalt and bottle caps, to clay and cloth.

The exhibit will run from January 21 through April 15. Seiler and Mitzel will give a talk on January 21, from 2:00 until 4:00 pm, and admission is free.

Organizers of this kind of event can make things more enjoyable for visitors by working with a flyer printing company to create a list of exhibits and artists.
