ODOT gives heads up to businesses about bridge closure

On June 8, workers from the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) began visiting businesses in Boardman and Beaver Township regarding the upcoming Western Reserve Road bridge closing.

Justin Chesnic, ODOT Public Information Officer, along with two other ODOT representatives distributed Flyers to the around 100 businesses between Spring Road and Market Street along Western Reserve Road and answered questions.

The bridge closure, along with the resurfacing of I-680 between the Pennsylvania Turnpike and U.S. 224, is part of an $8.9m project being undertaken by ODOT. The bridge will be closed on Monday, June 15 and will reopen sometime in early September.

One obvious concern is how closing the bridge over Interstate 680 will affect traffic flow and consequently the flow of customers to businesses in the area. Certainly, some businesses will be helped while other hurt by the change in traffic patterns, particularly those businesses that depend on being convenient to drivers.

Some businesses attract customers less for their convenient location and more because customers are specifically seeking them out. These companies may worry that patrons will not be able to find an alternative route.

For these reasons, some businesses will no doubt choose to use a flyer printing service to provide suggested alternative routes, and perhaps a coupon or other incentive to prompt people to make the effort.
