Boardman locals can virtually attend a discussion on consumer fraud in August, held by the Youngstown Library.
Avoiding Consumer Fraud and Scams is a program where people can learn more about fraudulent activity that may impact them and what they can do to stay safe. The activity is part of the library's True Crime series and will be presented by the Ohio Attorney General's Office's Consumer Educator, Ryan Lippe. He gives several public presentations to groups throughout the state to inform people about their rights and how to avoid unfair business practices.
The Ohio Attorney General's Office has several services in place that help keep consumers protected from unethical behavior. There is a designated area on the office's website where customers may file complaints and report scams. Additional information about cybersecurity, identify theft, and consumer protection laws can also be found on the site. Citizens may even report unethical actions such as elder abuse, patient neglect, and bid-rigging.
The webinar on avoiding scams will be held on Monday, August 22 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Registration is free to the public and will open for library patrons on July 22. Participants are required to provide their emails when registering to be sent Zoom links to Lippe's discussion. Online discussions such as this can be promoted to library visitors by using poster printing.
