Boardman Library will be hosting classes on operating radios in January for those interested in getting a license.
Amateur Radio 101 is a series held at the Boardman Library where patrons can learn different skills related to radios. The Technician Class will be a two-part lesson that teaches attendees the basics of amateur radio operations. The Western Reserve Amateur Radio Club (WRARC) will give the lecture. Students who attend both events can complete the FCC Ham Radio test to earn their technician license. Adults and those in grades 7-12 are invited to take part in the radio course.
The WRARC is an organization of like-minded radio operators that was formed in 2010. The club holds monthly tests to help others earn a technician class license or upgrade their licenses. Other activities held by the group include educational workshops, holiday dinners, and walks for important causes. The current president of the WRARC is Chris Monske. Those interested in becoming a member must pay a $5 initiation fee and annual dues.
The amateur radio course will be held on Saturday, January 7 from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm and Saturday, January 14 from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm. A general lesson on radio operations will be offered on Saturday, February 11. Registration is required to attend both technician classes. Libraries offering niche programs like this may use poster printing to advertise their courses to visitors.
