The Autism Society of Mahoning County in Boardman will hold a group outing for those with autism.
Social Connections is a series of events where all ages of the autistic community can come together and practice socializing in a supportive environment. The events offered in the program are split into two groups. The Tween/Teen Group is for those ages 12-17, while the Young Adult Group is for people 18 and up. The program's mission is to create lasting friendships and help autistic individuals develop confidence. Those who attend the events must be able to participate in the activities independently or with minimal support.
The program is facilitated by Jennifer Groce, an intervention specialist and Google-certified educator who works for Potential Development Schools for Students with Autism. She has experience as a Therapeutic Staff Support member for Paoletta Counseling Services. Groce went to school at Malone University and Grand Canyon University. There will also be one or two additional support staff members to help during the group activity.
The Social Connections program will be held on Saturday, December 16 from 11:00 am to 2:30 pm. The location of the activity will be emailed to registrants. People can join the Social Connections group for free, though participants are responsible for activity fees. Societies that hold group events like this may use poster printing to promote their social activities to the community.
