Westbury and surrounding villages hold STOP dates
This spring, the Town of North Hempstead, which includes Westbury, wants people to STOP and be careful when getting rid of particular items.
The town will host several STOP (Stop Throwing Out Pollutants) events throughout the season.
Towns that are planning hazardous waste disposal events can use responsibly arranged flyer printing to let people know what they can and cannot bring to the events. The programs offered in North Hempstead will accept TVs, computers, rechargeable and lithium batteries, pesticides, aerosols, light bulbs, fertilizers, disinfectants, oil-based paints, and thermostats.
It is also worth noting that some materials will not be accepted at the STOP events; for example, water-based and latex paints are considered safe enough to put out with regular household garbage. Prescription medicines also will not be accepted.
People will also have the chance to shred sensitive paperwork during the event. Documents brought to the STOP program will be shredded that day. Each car is welcome to bring up to six bankers of box-sized boxes of paperwork.
The first event is set to take place on April 21 and 22 in the North Lot for North Hempstead Beach Park. The event will last from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm on both days.
After that, the next STOP program will be held on June 23 at Westbury High School, followed by a program at North Hempstead Beach Park on October 20 and 21.
