Public access channel seeks plays from Westbury writers

Westbury playwrights seeking their 15 minutes of fame have a chance to go and get it.

Public Access Television is currently accepting submissions from Long Island-based writers as part of the Normal Hall Memorial Playwrights Project contest.

The annual contest as a prize of $1,000. The winning playwright will get to see their play come to life through a professional TV production. The value of the professional production is $15,000.

Plays that are eligible for the contest need to be less than 15 minutes long. There should be no more than three or four characters in the script and none of the characters should be children. The plays should use a single set. All submissions must be the original work of the playwright.

Public organizations calling for submissions for contests can use flyers or brochure printing to let interested participants know the detail of the contest and for how long submissions are being accepted.

The deadline for the Norman Hall Memorial Playwrights Project contest is May 31, 2019. Writers can email their scripts to info@patv.org with the subject line Playwrights Competition. The TV station is also accepting mailed submissions.

All submissions should be typed and each writer can submit up to two plays. None of the scripts will be returned.

Funding for the contest comes from donations from viewers, Sterling Bank, North Shore Community Arts Council, and the Decentralization Program from the NY State Council on the Arts.
