Syosset schools honor long-time employees
Nowadays, the average person spends less than five years working at the same job, so it is perhaps not surprising that spending five times that with a company was recently deemed worth celebrating.
During its annual District Reception, which took place in early July, the Syosset School District honored four staff members who had spent the past 25 years working with the district. The district also honored a group of 17 retiring staff members at the same event.
School districts can use stationery printers to produce certificates to hand out to retirees and other award recipients. The Syosset School District presented each employee with a certificate during the reception. Colleagues of those who were retiring, or who had been with the district for a quarter of a century, also said a few words about their coworkers regarding their service to the area's students and their commitment to the district.
The school with the greatest number of retirees was Harry B. Thompson Middle School. Its principal, James Kassebaum, joked that they were "clearing out the building" before he introduced the final retiring teacher.
Along with employees, two board members, Laura Schlesinger and April Neuendorf, are retiring from their positions this year.
Nicolette Camardi, a student at Syosset High School, was responsible for designing the program used during the reception. Her efforts earned her some recognition from Dr. Tom Rogers, the district's superintendent, who called attention to it during his opening speech.
