Syosset residents welcomed on fundraising walk
Later this month, residents of Syosset and surrounding towns will have a chance to engage in some friendly competition and physical activity; all for a charitable cause.
The Long Island Brain Tumor walk, hosted by the National Brain Tumor Society, is aiming to raise money for research into treatments for the disease. The mission of the Society is to improve treatment options for patients with the cancer and to ultimately find a cure for the disease.
Kristina Knight, a spokeswoman for the organization, told the Syosset-Jericho Tribune:
People who decide to participate in the walk can form a team with others, either by creating their own ensemble or by joining an already registered one. They also have the option of walking on their own as well. In the spirit of friendly competition, prizes are given to the teams or individuals who earn the most pledges. The National Brain Tumor Society could use a local print company to invite residents of the town and surrounding area to participate in the walk.
It will be held this Saturday, September 20, in Wantagh at Jones Beach State Park. Registration begins at 8:00 am and the event is expected to last until 12 noon.
