Syosset Panera Bread accepting food donations
To celebrate the season of giving, 33 Panera Bread restaurants on Long Island, including one in Syosset, are collecting food donations throughout the month of December.
The restaurants are accepting donations to support the Turkey and Trimmings Collection campaign, overseen by Island Harvest, the largest hunger relief organization in the area. Island Harvest began in 1992 with the goal to end hunger and reduce food waste.
Food and hunger relief organizations can use brochures to help people understand the impact of food waste on people and the environment, and to encourage people to help out in any way they can.
One way to help is by contributing to a food drive. Through December 31, Panera Bread restaurants will accept frozen turkeys and nonperishable foods. The restaurants will have boxes up at the front for canned or boxed food donations. People donating frozen turkeys can hand them over at the register so that they can be kept frozen.
Along with the restaurant in Syosset, other Panera Breads collecting donations on Long Island include the locations in Garden City, Mineola, Port Jefferson, and West Babylon.
Panera Bread is not the only Long Island business serving as a drop-off point for the Turkey and Trimmings Collection. In Syosset, other locations include the Roslyn Savings Bank, which is collecting nonperishable items only (no turkeys). The Bristal Assisted Living in nearby North Hills is accepting nonperishable items and turkeys.
