What's Happening in Syosset, NY…

Syosset and neighboring villages collect donations for Harvey victims

Several trailers full of needed supplies made their way down to Texas last week, after residents of the Town of Oyster Bay donated nonperishable foods and other goods.

The supplies were sent off by Joseph Saladino, the Town Supervisor, and Louis Imbroto, a town councilman.

Speaking to the local Patch, Saladino stated that:

“Thousands of people are still seeking food and temporary shelter as Hurricane Harvey delivered unprecedented amounts of rain in Texas."

He went on to add:

“Together, we are helping make a difference in the lives of those who desperately need it and will continue to be at the ready to help communities in the days, weeks and months ahead.”

Imbroto pointed out that residents of villages such as Syosset and other areas of the Town of Oyster Bay are all too familiar with the impact a major storm can have on an area and on the people who live there.

In situations like this, town officials might use postcard printing and distribute cards with details on what donations are needed to area residents. Although the first batch of supplies is en route to Houston, the Town is still collecting donations.

In particular, it is looking for ready-to-eat, nonperishable food items, toiletries, and cleaning supplies. Clothing donations will not be accepted.

Syosset residents can bring their donations to the Home Depot on Jericho Pike or to Homes by Mara at 30 Berry Hill Road.
