Syosset hospital recognized by American Heart Association
The American Heart Association and American Stroke Association have recognized the achievements of Syosset Hospital by presenting it with its "Get with the Guidelines - Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement" award.
To qualify for the achievement, a hospital needs to have an adherence of 85 percent or more with the "Get With the Guidelines- Stroke" indicators for at least two 12-month periods in a row. Additionally, the hospital needs to have 75 percent or more compliance with five out of eight of the quality measures.
By meeting those requirements, Syosset Hospital is able to provide patients who have had a stroke with treatment based on the most up-to-date scientific evidence. The better the initial treatment is that patients receive, the better their odds for recovery and the lower the risk for disability or death after a stroke.
Some of the guidelines include using anti-clotting and clot-busting medications, as well medications to thin the blood and reduce cholesterol levels, plus counseling to help patients quit smoking and taking preventative action with patients who have deep vein thrombosis. Organizations such as the American Stroke Association and American Heart Association can use printing services to provide hospitals with copies of the guidelines.
Paul Heidenreich, MD, MS, the national chairman of the steering committee for Get With The Guidelines, said in a statement.
