Anti-bullying program to take place near Syosset
October is National Bullying Prevention Month, and as a way to raise awareness about bullying, the Town of Oyster Bay, which includes Syosset, will host a special ‘Put Bullying on Ice’ program.
Organized by Joseph Saladino, the town supervisor, together with Rebecca Alesia, a councilwoman, the project will be held at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skate Center, in nearby Bethpage. Skate rentals and admission will be free for families who reside in the town and for all students. Snacks and other purchases from the concession stand will be 25% off.
In an announcement on the Town of Oyster Bay's website, Supervisor Saladino said:
"The Town of Oyster Bay is proud to partner with residents and the Long Island Coalition Against Bullying and Long Island Crisis Center to raise awareness, enhance dialogue among children about the dangers associated with bullying and recognize the need for education and commitment to prevent this type of behavior.”
Government officials who are organizing community events can use such techniques as banner printing to let residents know of the programs and when they will take place.
Put Bullying on Ice will be held on Saturday, October 6 from 7:00 until 9:00 pm, during the skating center's public skate session. More information about the event can be obtained by calling the parks department at 516-797-4115.
