The Hope for the Warriors charity has issued a big thank you to everyone in Long Island who turned out to participate in and support its 7th Annual Long Island Run for the Warriors.
The event, which took place amid a host of banner printing in evidence on November 9th in Lindenhurst, saw in excess of 2,700 runners take part. With the competitors battling tiredness over runs spanning one mile, 5K, or 10K, the organizers confirmed that over $200,000 was raised.
The opening ceremony also saw nine handcycles being donated to service people who have been wounded on operations. The donations were made working in close association with the Island Federal Credit Union (IFCU), which was a main sponsor.
The handcycles are intended to be used by the service men and women to help them regain fitness and maintain as active a lifestyle as possible in spite of their injuries. It is also hoped that a community of 'warrior athletes' will be created in the future thanks to such efforts.
One former serviceman receiving a handcyle on the day was delighted with the presentation. Staff Sgt. Bobby Dove, said that the gift had put a smile on his face throughout the day.
Formed in 2006, Hope For The Warriors works to restore aspirations for our military members and their families.
