Summer garden tour opening in West Bay Shore

Residents of the Lindenhurst area who enjoy old, historic estates are going to be in for a treat this weekend. The curators of Sagtikos Manor are offering tours of the estate's garden area, The Peony.

Visitors will be able to learn about the history of the estate and its gardens. They will see artistic landscaping, and there is some art to be found in the gardens as well.

Perhaps the largest piece of interest for those who enjoy art is the Peacock Fountain, which was created by Mary Aldrich Fraser. The tour will touch on the history of the fountain and some details about its creation.

Sagtikos Manor was built in 1697. Stephanus Van Cortlandt ordered the construction of the original building, and it was later owned by the Gardiners and the Thompsons, two prominent American families. The house was famous during the Revolutionary War for serving as a headquarters of the British general Sir Henry Clinton. George Washington later visited it while touring Long Island.

Organizers for this event might turn to printing companies to create advertising materials like Flyers or Posters, which can be distributed in Lindenhurst and other nearby towns. These marketing items are often cheaper than radio spots or TV ads, but can be just as effective.

The Peony Path Tour takes place today (Sunday, June 1st). The first tour will run from 10:30am until 12:30, and the second will run from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. There is an $8 admission fee for seniors and a $10 general admission fee for tickets purchased in advance. Tickets will be $12 on the day of the event.
