Senior Citizen of the Year could be from Lindenhurst

The Suffolk County Senior Citizen Advisory Board is currently taking nominations for this year's Senior Citizen of the Year Award.

This is a joint effort between the Senior Citizen Advisory Board and the office of Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone. Seniors living in Suffolk County, including Lindenhurst, may be eligible to be nominated.

The purpose of the award is to recognize the contributions a senior citizen has made to other residents and seniors in a significant way. Nominees can serve as volunteers, role models, or advocates, working with organizations that serve the entire country or a smaller community.

Organizations that give out awards for excellent contributions can use Direct Mail printing to get the word out about the prize ,and to encourage people to nominate someone they know. The mailings can also include details on who is eligible for a nomination.

Eligible candidates are over the age of 60 and reside in Suffolk County. People who work for the federal, state or local organizations that provide senior services aren't eligible. If a person won in the past, he or she isn't eligible either.

According to Bellone, the County Executive:

“The Senior of the Year is a special opportunity to highlight the contributions and commitment of those who are deserving of this recognition.”

The deadline for nominations is February 22. The winner will be named at the annual Senior Celebration Luncheon, scheduled for May 16.
