Pride of Lindenhurst Awards recognizes contributories to the school district

Every year, the Lindenhurst School District gives the Pride of Lindenhurst awards to people who have made a significant contribution to the school district over the academic year, and the 2015 winners were announced last month.

There are two categories for the awards: staff and community. Robert Sweeney, a former Assemblyman, received the Community award this year for his dedication and high level of commitment to the area and the community. Upon receiving the award, Sweeney, who was the Village Clerk in Lindenhurst for a period of 14 years before he was an elected Assemblyman in 1988, stated:

"It has been an honor for me to serve the community that I’ve had the privilege to live in my whole life. This really means a lot."

The staff member who was named Pride of Lindenhurst this year was Merrill Zusmer, the interim assistant to the superintendent for special education and pupil personnel services. Zusmer earned the award thanks to his work with the school district's special education students. Accepting his award, he said:

"We all have the same goal to get better every day and together we will continue to get better."

The school district could have worked with local Stationery printers to create the certificates for the award winners. They were announced during the Board of Education Community Forum, which took place in the Lindenhurst High School auditorium on June 10.
