Officials near Lindenhurst seek home for found cat

While there might be a number of cats in and around Lindenhurst looking for a home, one feline in particular has captured the attention of area authorities and the media.

The cat was taken to the Massapequa Pet Vet by a police officer on January 4, after he was found with a can of soup stuck on his head. The veterinarian was able to remove the can from the cat without much difficulty, and he did not sustain any injuries.

The veterinary practice and its nonprofit arm, Long Island Wildlife and Animal Rescue, are currently looking for a home for the animal. Donna Terris, the manager of the Pet Vet, told Patch that the veterinarian does not want to simply release the cat back where he was found, because the fact that he made such an effort to get the food at the bottom of the can suggests that no one is providing care, shelter, or food to him, and it would not be right to return him.

The vet's office could use flyer printing to get the word out about the cat's availability and to describe the type of home they are looking for. Ideally, the cat will go home with someone who has time everyday to help him acclimate to people and a home environment.
