Local credit union gives loan to Lindenhurst Diner

The Teachers Federal Credit Union (TFCU) has given the Lindenhurst Diner a $1m loan to cover the cost of renovations to update and restore the restaurant.

The diner is one of the oldest eateries on the South Shore of Long Island. It first opened 1954, but closed in March. The renovation process took six months and the diner was recently able to reopen. It held a ribbon cutting ceremony at the end of last month.

With the loan from the credit union, the diner's owners, Peter and Nick Glykos and Valentino Zarboutis, were able to renovate the restaurant both inside and out. To highlight the fact that the funding came from the credit union, the diner placed Banners outside of its entrance that stated that the project was financed by TFCU.

So far, the reaction from customers has been positive according to Zarboutis, who said:

"The customers who have returned are impressed with the renovations and new amenities. Their energy and appreciation have been overwhelming."

The President and CEO of the credit union, Robert G. Allen, noted that it strives to support local businesses on Long Island. It is in the process of expanding its commercial lending program. He said in a statement:

"The renovation project for the Lindenhurst Diner is a perfect example of how our credit union is supporting the community.”
