The South Shore Theatre Experience will be performing a play in Lindenhurst this January by the award-winning Sam Shepard.
The South Shore Theatre Experience will be starting the new year off by performing Shepard’s Curse of the Starving Class. The play was initially produced at the Royal Court Theatre in the 1970s with Nancy Meckler as the director.
The story is both a dark comedy and tragedy that portrays the lives of the dysfunctional Tate family, who spend the play struggling to maintain control over their family farm. Curse of the Starving Class won the Obie Award for Best New American Play from 1976 to 1977.
Sam Shepard had worked on numerous plays during his career, including Geography of a Horse Dreamer, The Late Henry Moss, and Ages of the Moon. Several of his pieces received awards, such as winning Best Off-Broadway Play, Best Direction, and Ensemble of the Year.
The South Shore Theatre Experience is a non-profit group that aims to bring the joy of theatrical performances to children through workshops and classes. The organization hosts several plays throughout the year, featuring plays like Next to Normal and Veronica’s Room. Groups that want to advertise their theater shows to the public can use poster printing to grab local attention.
Curse of the Starving Class will begin on January 3 and continue until January 18. Those interested in seeing the performance must register with the South Shore Theatre Experience in advance.
