Lindenhurst residents paddle for a good cause

The Town of Babylon, which includes the villages of Lindenhurst, Babylon, and Amityville, as well as several hamlets, has come up with a creative way to raise money in support of local veterans.

It will host its second annual Kayaking for a Cause kayak very shortly. Funds raised from this year's event will assist the West Babylon-based Sgt. John Sardiello American Legion Post 1634.

People do not have to be expert kayakers to participate in the event. Three different routes are planned, based on skill level. The beginner trail is just 2.5 miles long, the intermediate trail is 3.5 miles long, and the advanced extends to 5.5 miles.

Town officials can use Direct Mail printing to get the word out about the kayaking event to past participants and local veterans' groups.

Advanced registration is recommended for the event, as there is only space for 100 kayakers. Registration costs $35 for those over age 12 and $15 for kids under age 12. Participants receive an event T-shirt, a bracelet entitling them to lunch, and a spot on the kayak tour with their registration and fee.

Registration is available online through the town's website. People can also send a check and registration information directly to Kayaking for a Cause, at the Town Hall in Lindenhurst.

On the day of the tour, registration starts at 7:30 am this Saturday, September 17, at the Cedar Beach Marina. The tour starts at 9:00 am.
