Lindenhurst legislator honors troop's first Eagle Scout

It is not often that a Boy Scout makes it to the level of Eagle Scout. In fact, Troop 2014, in Lindenhurst, only recently inducted its first Eagle Scout.

On March 6, the troop held an Eagle Scout Court of Honor for Salvatore Cataldo, the first Scout from the troop to work his way up and earn the Eagle Scout designation. Kevin McCaffrey, a Suffolk County Legislator from Lindenhurst, attended the ceremony to present Cataldo with his proclamation.

The troop can use Print companies to get the word out about Cataldo's achievement, and about the fact that a second scout is expected to make it to the Eagle Scout rank in the near future.

To become an Eagle Scout, a Boy Scout needs to develop and work on a service project. The skills a Scout develops while working towards merit badges and other achievements over the course of a Scouting career are all meant to help the him or her complete the project.

Cataldo's project focused on helping to make the living conditions at an area nursing and rehabilitation center better. To do so, he arranged for the planting of 15 evergreen trees. These provide the residents with privacy and shade, and also help to improve drainage at the property.

In addition to Kevin McCaffrey, Cataldo's induction ceremony was attended by his parents, fellow Scouts, and other elected officials.
