Lindenhurst gets ready for summer concert series

As June comes to a close, residents of Lindenhurst and the surrounding area are getting ready for the annual summer concert series.

The series begins this year on June 24, at Tanner Park with "Space Oddity," a tribute to the late David Bowie. The concerts are free, but residents are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to each show, to donate to the local food pantry.

Many of this year's performers are tribute bands that cover the songs of a particular artist or era. For example, on July 1, the performers will be the Zac Brown Tribute Band. The band covers the songs of the country act Zac Brown Band, including the band's first hit, "Chicken Fried.” The tribute band also covers other artists and songs, in the same manner as the Zac Brown Band.

On July 6, the Marshall Tucker Band, which had a number of popular Southern rock songs in the 1970s, will play at the park. The concert series changes styles with a performance by the Doowop Group on July 8.

The concert series is sponsored by a number of local businesses. To thank those businesses, concert organizers such as the Town of Babylon can hang Banners across the stage, featuring the business' logos.

The series continues through the month of July and into August. Other performers include "the ultimate 80's tribute band," Jessie's Girl, on July 13, Strawberry Fields, a Beatles tribute band, on July 27 and the 42nd Infantry Division Band on Aug. 12. All concerts begin at 7:30.
