Lindenhurst gets ready for its first cat cafe

Although the concept of a cat cafe is becoming more popular in the US (the cafes are already pretty popular in areas of Asia), Lindenhurst and the rest of Long Island isn't yet home to one. That should change soon, thanks to the efforts of Ryan Shea, an RN from Yaphank.

Shea has started a Kickstarter campaign to raise money to open the Shabby Tabby Cat Cafe. She got the idea for the cafe after losing her cat, Brody, and was inspired to help other cats in need. A cat cafe gives feline-lovers a place to cuddle and play with their favorite animals. It also provides a comfortable living situation for kittens and adult cats who would otherwise have to stay in a shelter.

A lot goes into opening a cat cafe, from finding the kittens who will live there, to Logo Design for the cafe's Signs and merchandise. The cost can also add up.

Shea has set $30,000 as the goal for the campaign and at time of writing had raised nearly $7,000. She is offering gifts and incentives to those who donate, including a free day pass to the cafe and a tumbler with the cafe's logo on it.

While there is no set opening date for the cafe, once it does get up and running, all of the cats who call it home will be available for adoption.
