Zielinska graduated from Lindenhurst High School. She is currently a sophomore at SUNY and is majoring in accounting.
The Nicholas Maletta Memorial Scholarship Award is named for the former vice chairman of the credit union's board of directors. Maletta held the position of vice chairman from 1991 until 2012. The award is presented each year to a student who graduated from a Long Island High School and who is attending the School of Business at SUNY Old Westbury.
The scholarship was created as part of the credit union's efforts to provide financial support and encouragement to local students.
Companies that give out scholarships to college students can use brochure printing to let students know about the awards and the requirements for applying.
In addition to attending SUNY Old Westbury's business school, applicants for the Nicholas Maletta award need to complete an original, 500-word essay. This should describe an obstacle the student faced and what he or she did to overcome it. Ideally, the essay will include what the student learned from the obstacle.
In a statement, Robert G. Allen, the credit union's president and CEO, said:
“TFCU acknowledges the outstanding academic accomplishments of Magdalena. She is diligently working hard in her studies in preparation for a career in the world of business and finance.”
