Lindenhurst celebrates Ireland with traditional dinner

A person doesn't have to be Irish to celebrate St. Patrick's Day in the U.S. People in Lindenhurst will have a chance to wear green and celebrate the holiday a few days in advance at the annual St. Patrick's Day party, hosted by the Lindenhurst Fire Department's Bay Rats.

Along with a traditional Irish dinner of either corned beef and cabbage or ham, and a less traditional option of ziti (a pasta bake), the evening will feature performances by Irish dancers and a DJ for those who want to do their own dancing. There will also be an open bar, raffles, and door prizes.

The Bay Rats could use postcard printing to spread the word about the party to people in the area and to get people to purchase tickets in advance. All proceeds from the evening will go to supporting the Bay Rats and the local fire department.

Although not necessary, "the wearing of the green" is traditional, and people are encouraged to wear the color to the party in honor of the holiday. Green has been associated with Irish culture for hundreds of years, and appears on the nation’s flag.

The yearly party will take place on March 14, starting at 8:00 pm. Tickets to the celebration are $25 in advance or $30 per person if purchased at the door. The party will take place at the Pavillion at the Firemans Memorial Park, 836 Heiling Boulevard.
