Residents aged 16 and younger of Lindenhurst can participate in the Snapper and Crab Derby next month.
This annual event takes place just a short drive away at Captree State Park and prides itself on helping children discover the joys of fishing. In addition to the main fishing event, previous events have included raffles and giveaways with Promotional Products and similar small gifts.
The competition will be split up by age groups. The age categories are seven years and younger; children aged 8 to 12 years; and children aged 13 to 16 years. This fishing tournament for children encourages a ‘Catch and Release’ policy. All captured fish and crab will be weighed live and then released. The child with the heaviest catch will be the winner.
The 2020 Snapper and Crab Derby takes place at nearby Captree State Park on 3500 Ocean Parkway in Bay Shore. The event will take place on Saturday, August 8, and Sunday, August 9, and will be from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. The award ceremony will take place at 1:30 pm.
The event is free admission, but there will be an $8 parking fee at the park. Participants can either bring their equipment or rent on the day. Previously, interested participants could sign up at the Captree Fuel, Bait & Tackle Shop. More information can be found on the official national parks website of the NY government.
