In early April, the Creek Defenders will be organizing a public cleanup of the creeks in Lindenhurst and West Babylon.
The Creek Defender Program protects 50 creeks in the Great South Bay that run through 16 communities, including Lindenhurst. The program encourages people of these communities to come together to protect these creeks and become advocates for their sustainability. April's event will be a cleanup effort organized by two Creek Defenders representing Lindenhurst and West Babylon.
Partnering up with the Lindenhurst Memorial Library, Christina Galante of West Babylon and Dave Schrader of Lindenhurst will lead a team of volunteers to clean up the Neguntatogue and Santapogue creeks. Anyone, including students, families, and local organizations, is welcome to join the effort. Volunteers will receive Grab 'n Go gear packs containing picks, disposable gloves, trash Bags, and safety Vests. The gear pack will also include a map of the designated areas the volunteers will need to cover.
Organizers ask that attendees wear weather-appropriate clothes and waterproof shoes or boots. Participants must wear masks when in situations where social distancing cannot be maintained.
The Creek Defenders Cleanup is slated for April 3, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. The Lindenhurst Memorial Library will serve as the meetup location for gear pickup.
Brochure printing may be helpful in such events to prepare informational materials for volunteers.
