A new animal shelter is currently under construction. According to officials from the town, the project is nearly completed.
At the end of March, Chris Elton, the director of the new shelter, took town Supervisor Rich Schaffer and Tony Martinez, the deputy supervisor, on a tour of the new facility. Towns that have new projects underway can use banner printing to let area residents know when the project is finished.
Speaking to Patch, Schaffer said:
"This new facility is long overdue for the town, and I know that Chris Elton and his dedicated staff will make the most of the new features of the building. Our animals will be more adoptable and children in our community will have the chance to come in and learn about the importance of caring for them."
The shelter will have several new and improved features compared to the current building. There will be a veterinarian on-site and a classroom.
Separate areas will be available for cats and dogs. Cats can either roam about indoors or spend the day outdoors in an enclosed porch.
The areas for dogs for have several features that will help the animals stay calm, making them more adoptable. One such feature is mirrored windows, which prevent the dogs from seeing people out in the corridor.
Although it is expected that the shelter will open soon, an opening day has yet to be set.
