Upcoming festival gives plenty to offer gardeners

The 19th annual Franklin Carr Memorial Iris Festival and Competition is taking place this May in Bordentown City, hosted by the Downtown Bordentown Association.

The competition will take place in Friendship Meeting House and is open to the public. The day will also be filled with lots of activities of interest to gardeners.

There is set to be a vendor showcase, which will offer such items as plants and lawn decorations for sale, an arts showcase, and horse drawn carriage rides on Farnsworth Avenue. To make a reservation for a carriage ride, call Rebecca at 609-298-9422. Master gardeners will be on hand to give talks, Beth Davis will be talking about growing orchids, and John Black will be pleading the case for accepting native plants in the garden.

Some of the vendors will no doubt be offering gardening and growing tips to those who stop by their booths.

The festival and competition will probably attract visitors from all around the area, including those from nearby Cranbury. Organizers might invest in products from flyer or poster printing companies to advertise the event in the community.

The Franklin Carr Memorial Iris Festival and Competition is being held in downtown Bordentown City on May 9 from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. Admission is free. To find updated information about this event, visit the Downtown Bordentown Association's website.
