Stargazers gather to view Cranbury night skies

Astronomy buffs and amateur star gazers of all ages will gather to take in the night skies over Cranbury next month.

Presented by the Recreation and Community Services Department in the nearby Township of Plainsboro, the evening of star gazing will be held at the Plainsboro Preserve.

The preserve is a natural area of over 1000 acres including the 50-acre McCormack Lake and a trail system in Middlesex County. It is a protected space for a number of species of plants and wildlife and is also home of the 6500 square foot Rush Holt Environmental Education Center where natural history programs, workshops and lectures take place. Popular nature areas and facilities such as this often use flyer printing to provide information and maps to support their programs.

The surrounding wide open space at the nature preserve makes it the perfect location for viewing a starry night. Program participants will have the use of a telescope during the outing to see Jupiter, Saturn and Venus as well as constellations and other celestial objects.

While telescopes are widely used in astronomy, many of the stars and planets can be viewed with the naked eye or with regular binoculars.

The star gazing evening event will be held November 30, from 6 to 9 pm at 80 Scotts Corner Road in Cranbury. Online pre-registration is required with a program fee of $5.
