Budding filmmakers are hoping their productions will make the cut and hit the big screen for the East Brunswick Independent Film Festival (EB Indie) just a few miles from Cranbury.
The festival non-profit organization was created to encourage new movie creators and showcase their talent. It offers opportunities for young filmmakers to engage and network with their peers while learning more about the industry. In addition to the festival, the organization hosts an educational summer film camp.
EB Indie accepts student film entries to the festival in genres such as narrative, documentary, experimental, and animation. Experienced festival judges will review entries and recognize the best films with awards in categories such as best director, cinematography, sound, editing, and acting.
Each submitted film is at least two minutes long and no longer than 15 minutes. It must be produced in English or have English subtitles.
This year marks the fourth annual film festival, which was originally started by two local movie lovers as a drive-in big screen event. It has grown to feature 14 of the best short films, created by filmmakers from around the world.
Similar festivals often use flyer printing to promote the featured films to a wider audience.
EB Indie will be held Saturday, August 3 at noon, inside at the East Brunswick Community Arts Center, 721 Cranbury Road. Tickets are $10 and the five-hour screening includes a 15-minute intermission.
