Princeton hopes traditional rite can bear fruit

Locals of all ages are welcome to take part in ‘Wassailing the Apple Trees’ at Terhune Orchards in Princeton later this month.

This is an historic rite that is seen as a way to protect the apple trees so that there will be a successful crop in the next season. There will be dancing and singing from the Molly Dancers, reenactment of traditional rituals, chanting, and music making.

Visitors are encouraged to bring their own instruments and other noisemakers, with the idea being that they can chase away any evil spirits that may interfere with the crop. There will also be toasts of hot cider and the placing of bread soaked in apple juice in the tree branches. In addition, visitors can enjoy a bonfire, farm wagon rides, and live music performed by the Spice Punch Quartet in the Farm Store.

Visitors from all over the region, including nearby Cranbury, may be interested in attending this unique celebration. Stationery printing companies in the area might be asked to provide marketing materials like Brochures and Flyers to help make people in the area aware of the event.

Wassailing the Apple Trees is taking place at Terhune Orchards on January 25 from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm. Admission is free, as are all of the activities. Call 609-924-2310 to get the most up-to-date information on this upcoming event.
