Local area goes to international film festival

Caldwell film buffs will be delighted to know that the 2020 Newark International Film Festival will take place in early September. This festival will be five days of films featuring the industry’s latest innovation and breadth.

Independent film makers from all over the globe have submitted narrative features, documentaries, shorts, web originals, music videos, and social media comedy skits.

Screenings will be at various Newark cultural institutions and outdoor venues. The event will feature stunt exhibitions along with masterclasses in producing, casting, music in films, cinematography, directing, acting, and crowd funding. Celebrity panels will hold auditions for TV and film, and provide pitch opportunities.

Casting director Wendy McKenzie will present an Act Out Loud Improv Class. Attendees will learn how to lessen stage fright and increase self-awareness through music, team building, movement and poetry. McKenzie will also address the art of acting.

Other experiences will include concerts ranging from hip-hop to jazz, and gospel to house. There will be a film scavenger hunt, entertainment showcases, and televised awards.

The festival will be awarding the Hannibal Goodwin Award for Innovation in Filmmaking. Winners of awards such as this usually get their pictures taken. These pictures often go to local Print shops for duplicates to be sent to family and friends.

Newark International Film Festival will be from September 9 through September 13. Registration will be available any festival day at 744 Broad Street Newark from 8:00 am until 7:00 pm.
