Caldwell enjoys spring with cherry festival

The cherry trees are blooming and the county will be celebrating the occasion with many activities in Branch Brook Park over the next few weeks.

These include the 2018 Essex County Cherry Blossom Festival, which will run for a week in early April. First will be the Challenge Bike Race featuring official NJBA racing through the park. Winners will receive prizes, and Caldwell spectators are invited to get banner printing arranged soon so they can bring something to cheer on their favorite cyclists.

The Cherry Blossom 10K Run will be a USATF-sanctioned event that will take runners through the park’s cherry groves. The first 500 to register will receive long-sleeved T-Shirts bearing the event’s graphic design. Fleece jackets and Gift Certificates will go to first, second, and third place in each of the 14 age categories.

A students’ One-Mile Fun Run/Walk will be the kick-off activity of Essex County Family Day, which will include a fishing derby, a petting farm, paddle boats, and craft activities. Magician Matt Durham will have two 30-minute shows during the afternoon.

The Bike Challenge will be April 7 at 7:00 am, the 10K will be April 8 starting at 8:00 am, the One-Mile Run/Walk will be April 14 starting at 10:00 am, and Family Day will follow it from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm. All activities will be at Branch Brook Park, 226 Heller Parkway, Newark.
