One of Caldwell’s claims to fame is that it was the birthplace of the nation’s 22nd and 24th president, Grover Cleveland. In honor of the president’s second inaugural anniversary, The Montclair Orchestra and the Grover Cleveland Birthplace Memorial Association will be presenting a historical reenactment of Cleveland's Inaugural Ball in a few days.
The black-tie event will be a lavish interactive affair recreating the Upper Montclair Women’s Club at the president’s 1893 Inauguration.
Guests will be immersed in the formal gathering as they become part of the historical evening. Dinner entrees will be reminiscent of those served during President’s Cleveland’s times in office. The Metropolitan Opera Concertmaster David Chan will be conducting the Montclair Orchestra in providing period music for dancing.
George Cleveland, Grover’s grandson, will be representing President Cleveland, and US Ambassador Thomas Robertson IV will be portraying his great-grandfather Vice President Adlai Stevenson. Jaime Gialloreto, Miss New Jersey, will be acting as Frances Folsom Cleveland.
CBS Morning News John Elliot will be sharing the Masters of Ceremony duties with Chef Roland Mesnier. Chef Mesnier served as the White House pastry chef for five presidents and will be sharing humorous stories of his time at the White House.
There will be a book signing for Chef Mesnier, and those who buy $500 tickets (possibly as Corporate Gifts) will receive Copies.
The Ball will be from 6:30 pm until 10:30 pm at the Women’s Club of Upper Montclair, 200 Cooper Avenue, Upper Montclair on November 10.
