Applications are now available for the Concord 101 program to be held later this year.
This is a program run by the city, during which residents can learn about local government and interact with staff members of the city. The program is free and held over a 14-week period of time. Classes will be held once a week on Tuesdays from 6:15 until 8:30 pm. Another session may be added from 2:00 until 4:15 pm if there is sufficient demand.
Attendees will be able to see how certain services in the city are run, such as the police and fire departments, parks and recreation, water, and solid waste. Several community partners will also join the sessions to enhance the classes and give some additional background on the city. Participants of such programs often take many kinds of printed materials away with them, created by local Print shops.
The classes will be interactive so that participants can provide input into the affairs of the city, and will want to take on a more active role in the community. There will be visits to facilities in the city and opportunities to see equipment used by departments.
The program will begin on Tuesday, August 18 and end in November with a graduation ceremony. Course completion will require attending at least 12 sessions and at least one City Council meeting.
