Concord teachers given special award for professional development

The recipients of the Mariam and Robert Hayes Charitable Trust award for 2019 are Angie McClain and Kate Culbreth (teachers at Patriots Elementary School and at Beverly Hills STEM Elementary School in Concord) and Beth Giddings (from G.W. Carver Elementary School in the Kannapolis City School system).

The teachers were given this award for their plan to participate in the Go Global NC’s Global Teachers – Mexico 2019 program as part of a team of 41 educators from across the state. Banner printing can be used so that those in the community becomes aware of such awards and their benefits for students.

Director of education and training of Go Global NC, Nicholas Rau, said that the teachers of North Carolina are afforded professional development through the annual Global Teachers program so they can develop students who can become culturally competent. Such new global experiences and cultures enable teachers to incorporate what they have learned into their classrooms.

Ray added that in the upcoming school year, Mexico will be studied because over half of the Latinos who live in the state claim Mexico as their country of origin. Those who travel to Mexico will learn about its culture and history as well as its education system when they meet with educators at their schools and attend lectures and hold discussions.
