Concord doctor named National Family Physician of the Year

Dr. Maureen E. Murphy was recently honored by the American Academy of Family Physicians as the family physician who has made the most profound positive effect.

On October 2, Dr. Murphy was received the highest honor given to a family physician in front of several hundred family physicians from across the US. Murphy, who works at Cabarrus Family Medicine in Concord, was given the award in recognition of her impact on patients and medical students.

The award is given to one American family physician who is outstanding in the compassionate and comprehensive care they deliver, and who serves as role model to other health professionals and to their community. This recent award follows Dr. Murphy’s naming as the North Carolina 2014 Family Physician of the Year.

Mention of these awards will likely be included in any biographical information forwarded to newsletter printing companies whenever she submits or is mentioned in an article.

A latecomer to the medical profession, Dr. Murphy was a television reporter living in Joplin, Missouri and then a public relations specialist in the Kansas City area before she pursued a career as a family practice physician.

Murphy’s nearly 30 years in medicine have seen her filling many rolls, including teacher and mentor to future doctors, and she has inspired many fledgling physicians to undertake family medicine.
