David W. Phillips, a former member of the Concord City Council, has become one of the newest members of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine.
This is the highest award in the state for public service and is one of the most prestigious and valued civilian honors. It is given to those who service to their communities has made a significant impact on the state. Phillips was given the award late last month to recognize his dedicated service to the citizens of Cabarrus County and the city for over 20 years. Announcements of such special recognitions are often made known throughout a community with poster printing.
Phillips was surprised with this award at a meeting of the City Council where Mayor Bill Dusch was also present. Phillips said that he was overwhelmed by the presentation of this award, expressing his gratitude to the many people who have helped him in his efforts over the years.
Phillips was born and raised in Concord and is retired from Duke Energy Carolinas, where he worked for 36 years. He was a member of the Concord City Council for 20 years. Additionally, he remains a member of the UNCC Alumni Association, a life member of the National Eagle Scout Association, and a former president and director of the Concord Rotary Club.
