Charlotte to discover world of butterflies and moths

Butterflies and moths are important pollinators for many of the plants found in Charlotte and the surrounding areas, and a workshop will offer a sneak peek into their daily lives.

The Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens offers an assortment of programming and other horticultural activities, and one of its seminars on the agenda for this fall is its Butterfly Bungalow. This activity will supply an introduction to butterflies and moths and an explanation as to why they are important to the area’s ecosystems.

Participants in this full-day activity will find out why pollination is essential in both the human and natural world, and they will discover how both these insects start out life as caterpillars that go through several stages during their life cycles. They group will meet butterflies up close and can ask any questions they might have at the same time.

A function like this gives those interested a chance to learn, and since a variety of species may be seen, it is often a good idea to supply them each with basic field ID guides so they will be able to identify what they see. These can be ordered from local Stationery printers.

This day will be open to the public on September 6. It will begin at 9:00 am at 6500 South New Hope Road in Belmont.
