Charlotte races for a cure

Runners in Charlotte can lace up their training shoes for a good cause.

The Susan G. Komen 'Race for the Cure' is a worldwide campaign to fight breast cancer. The organization helps educate the public about risks. By walking, running, making a donation, or volunteering, participants can help raise awareness and funds.

Race participants can choose from a timed and untimed 5K, along with a one-mile walk or run. Depending on the race, registration costs between $25 and $40. Participating with their parents, children ages five and under cost $10. Runners and walkers can choose to register as an individual or form a team, but all participants are encouraged to fundraise for the event.

Registration packets can be picked up at the Charlotte Running Company before things get underway. The establishment has locations in South Charlotte, Dilworth, and Mooresville. Registration can also be completed beginning at 5:30 am on race day. After signing a form on the Susan G. Komen website, captains may come to collect the packets for their entire team.

In order to raise money and aid the cause, many businesses ‘Go Pink’ in support of the race by turning up dressed in the colour. For this reason, Print companies have likely been busy creating Banners, Flyers, and other promotional materials for the event.

The event takes place this Saturday, October 4, at Marshall Park, located on West 2nd Street. The race begins at 7:15 am.
