Charlotte athletes tri their best at competition

The US National Whitewater Center in Charlotte is hosting its 6th annual XTERRA Whitewater Triathlon. The event is a XTerra USA Championships qualifier.

The event will take participants on a 1K swim in the Catawba River and a ‘manmade’ channel. There is a quarter-mile trail run between the two swim legs. Participants must wear swim caps and, depending on the water temperature, may need to wear wetsuits.

Then, competitors will go on a 23K bike ride and an 8K run along the center’s trail system.

After the triathlon, there will be post-race fun including refreshments, raffle prizes, and an awards ceremony. Awards will be given to the top three male and female performers in each age group.

Prior to July 16, registration costs $77. Race day registration is $87. Those who register after July 9 are not guaranteed a T-shirt.

Pre-race packet pickup will take place on July 17 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the U.S. National Whitewater Center. At 7:00 pm, there will also be a clinic to teach participants about transitioning between events during the triathlon.

The triathlon will begin on July 18 at 8:00 am. Race day registration and packet pickup will take place from 6:30 am until 7:30 am. Flyer printing is often relied on to promote athletic events such as this one.
