Charlotte amateur botanists offered plant ID workshop

North Carolina shrubs can be easy to identify at this time of year, and an upcoming workshop will show how they benefit both people and local wildlife.

UNC Charlotte Botanical Garden he made arrangements to offer an online autumn plant identification workshop, and there will be an optional field trip as well. It will be a four-hour class, offering a deep dive into plant identification, and there will also be an opportunity to apply this new knowledge in the field.

The learners will find out how they can use characteristics such as bark, bud shape, overall silhouette, and other details to determine shrub species, and they will also learn about the role these plants play in the ecology of the area. They will also be introduced to a variety of resources that may be useful to them, and advanced registration is mandatory to participate.

Offering a workshop like this to the public is one way a university or other educational institution can make a positive impact in its community. Field ID guides as well as other items for the event may be sourced from Print shops in the area.

This online workshop will welcome learners starting at 1:00 pm on October 16. The field trip to the Botanical gardens is scheduled for the next day, and anyone who would like to signup can do so by visiting its Facebook page.
