Canines run alongside their owners at race

Later this month, Charlotte locals and their furry friends can take part in a fun event while supporting a good cause.

The first Rescue Me 5K allows individuals to run in a scenic race with their pooch at McAlpine Creek Park. The race will take participants through the park, along the creek, and around a pond. Dogs must be on a leash and up to date with their vaccinations. Registration for the 5K costs $35.

After the race, there will be an awards ceremony, a dog training presentation from a professional trainer, and an opportunity to adopt a pet. Owners can dress up their animals and enter them in the Halloween Costume Contest. For $25, there will also be a chance for dogs to get their Canine Good Citizen Certification – a program that evaluates dogs.

Printing companies were likely involved in making promotional materials for the race, such as Flyers and Posters.

Proceeds from the event will go to help Operation Sidekick, which pairs rescued pit bulls with veterans who struggle with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and depression.

Packet pickup will take place on October 16 from noon until 7:00 pm at Omega Sports, located in the Park Road Shopping Center on 4201 Park Road.

The race kicks off on October 17 at 9:00 am and the awards ceremony begins at 10:30 am. McAlpine Creek Park is located on 8711 Monroe Road.
