Wood shop class offers new skills in Charlotte

Charlotte residents interested in learning to mill their own wood will want to save a date in early August.

The Wood Shop 101: Introduction to Milling and Shop Clean-Up will welcome registered guests next month to learn the basics of milling wood and maintaining their workspaces. The workshop instructors will teach visitors the fundamentals of using the machines necessary to mill lumber to “square four sides,” meaning all four sides are flat and parallel. The class is an entry-level learning experience and is suitable for individuals of all skill and experience levels who are interested in learning more.

Machines used in the milling process will include a planer, table saw, jointer, and miter saw, with each student getting hands-on experience with these tools. Students will also receive a tour of the wood shop to learn the purposes of each area. Flyer printing is a cost-effective way to promote events and workshops through grassroots marketing channels.

Students must be 16 years or older to sign up for the class, and minors must be accompanied by a responsible parent or guardian, who is required to purchase an additional ticket. For safety reasons, participants should not wear loose clothing or jewelry near their hands.

The workshop will be held at 1003 Louise Avenue in Charlotte on Thursday, August 7 from 6:00 to 8:30 PM. Tickets are $65.87 per student online.
