Workshop planned for Charlotte autism families

Children with autism spectrum disorders grow to become adults with autism spectrum disorders, and a workshop has been planned that can help to make this transition a little bit easier.

The Autism Society of North Carolina will be offering a Journey to Adulthood seminar, which will equip parents and caregivers with practical tips and other information they can use to prepare a youth for their Individual Transition Plan and their life as an adult. The discussion will touch on a variety of topics, and attention will be paid to shifting to post school activities.

Along with the transition, time will be spent on a review of what life skills can make it easier for an adult with an ASD to live as independently as they possibly can. Advice will be shared about who should be included in the process of planning this time, and there will also be a review of the components that are included in an Individual Transition Plan (ITP). The participants can ask questions and also network with others who know what they are going through. Digital copying can be used to craft handouts and other materials for this type of function.

The workshop will be taking place on March 1 at 8420 University Executive Park Drive in Charlotte. More details, for anyone who would like to find out more can be obtained by contacting the organizer at npopkin@autismsociety-nc.org.
